Race Details

Where? TCF Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN.  Race check-in 15-45 minutes prior to heat near Minnesota Tribal Nations Plaza, (West end of the stadium).  Same day registration is possible at the race check in location.  Parking is available around the stadium, $4-$6.

When?  Sept 17th, 2016, racing climbers and Burly Bank climbers start at 7 am, participant and virtual climbers start at 9 am.

Who? Everyone!  If you’re a serious racer or athlete, the timed race through 6054 stairs will challenge you (3027 up and 3027 down).  If you just want to have fun, come climb as many or as few stairs as you please.  The lower bowl has half stairs and handrails and at anytime you can step out of the course and walk over to the elevator to the Club Room.  Be sure to pop some kidney cancer cells (balloons).  Early Bird Registration is extended to Aug 17th, midnight (Adults $35, College/University Students and Kids 10-18 $20.00, under 10 free),  Then $45, $20, free respectively Aug 18-Sept 11.  After Sept 11th and Same day registration $55, $30, free.  If you are a university or college student, you must show your school ID at race check-in.  All climbers get a complimentary shirt with registration.

What? Break the Bank- Climb 4 Kidney Cancer is a celebration for those whose lives have been affected by Kidney Cancer.  It is also a professionally managed event with a chip-timed race early in the morning (7 am), and a non-competitive fun climb (9 am).  Children under the age of 10 are welcome to climb with adult supervision, but are not allowed in the race portion of the climb.  Only competitive climbers who want to be considered for placement need designate which climb you plan to do.  The participants can transition from piggy, to big, to burly to virtual.  FAQ

Which Climb Will You Choose? (all competitive climbers must indicate on registration, but non-competitive climbers are free to switch from courses as desired)


Virtual Climber:  New this year!  Have a medical condition that prevents you from climbing?  Or you’d just rather stay in the shade an munch on a chocolate kidney?  You can still join in the fun and support the cause.  Registration is $30 and you can donate more.  You can still get the great shirt, but must you pick it up at the stadium on event day.  Who knows you may even want to climb a few stairs.

The Piggy Bank: Climb the lower bowl!  Smaller steps.  Great for kids, families and those that just want to take it easy and have fun.  2536 Stairs (1267 up and 1267 down), 760 ft. of elevation rise. Average finishing time in past years was 41 minutes, winning time 17 minutes. Race Map.

The Big Bank: A Tour de Stade, Climb the entire stadium!  6054 Stairs (3027 up and 3027 down) 1785 ft. of elevation rise.  Average finishing time last year was 54 minutes, winning time 34 minutes.  Race Map.

The Burly Bank:  Climb the entire stadium over and over until your calves just can’t take it any more during the 5 hours of the event.  Must climb the Big Bank completely and then return to the starting point.  You can start as early as 7 am and the last time through the stadium must be started by 11 a.m. and conclude by 12 noon.  Your fastest lap will be considered for Big Bank placing.  Record is 6 laps through the stadium! Race Map.

 After the race, head up to the beautiful TCF Bank Club Room for a post race reception.  Look out from the best seats in the house and see your face on the famous TCF Bank Scoreboard!  All participants will take home a performance jersey.  Extra shirts can be purchased on the day of the event for $30 dollars while supplies last.

Kidney Cancer Information: Kidney Cancer Experts from the Institute of Prostate and Urologic Cancers and the University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Institute will be on hand with information about kidney cancer, current projects that have been funded by you, nutrition and other resources.

100% of the net proceeds from this event will go to University of Minnesota Foundation to fund Kidney Cancer research.  An example of a project this event will help support is the development of an exciting new medication for kidney cancer!  Other projects include advanced image analysis and a patient educational app.
