Dr. Ramon Castro is a doctor from Hermosillo, Mexico. After having cared for thousands of patients throughout his life and directing la Clinica de Neurofisiologia, it was quite a change to become the patient himself. Dr. Castro loves to walk and give a lot of credit to his wife and kids who helped him after being diagnosed with kidney cancer.
In remembering his kidney cancer story, he states (translated from his native Spanish), “I always tried to lead a healthy life free of chronic diseases and dedicating myself to my normal activities as a doctor. I had a very involved family life too; suddenly I realized, through an image that I obtained in 10 minutes, that I was a mortal like any other. Minutes later, my wife and I were looking at each other and we said we are going to face it, trusting my medical friends in medicine and looking for the best option nationwide. But in the international search we decided to go to the Cleveland Clinic and something very curious happened when I saw the profile of Dr. Weight, his career as a doctor and especially knowing him from a distance gave me peace of mind and security. We traveled to Cleveland Clinic and after meeting the staff and talking in person with Chris; I ended up saying to myself, it's just a cycle that I have to face. We went forward with the plan and everything turned out very well. So much so, that 24 hours after surgery I was already resting in the hotel. Finally, as a doctor and human being, we need to take care to listening to our bodies. If something doesn’t feel right, to immediately proceed with the recommended studies/tests. We will follow up closely anticipate that cancer does not return”
