We climbed Eagle Mountain for Joyce!

In Memory of Joyce E. Lindgren (12/16/1934 – 3/20/2016)

Joyce was diagnosed with kidney cancer in her early 80s, discovered unexpectedly during a routine CT scan or MRI for another reason. Though she had no symptoms, she was shocked to learn she had stage 4, grade 4 cancer. Over the course of her journey, Joyce underwent surgery, radiation, and alternative therapies, including faith-based and holistic approaches. Her nephrectomy gave her two precious extra years, which she fully embraced with her family.

Joyce was a retired nurse and a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family and her faith in God above all else. In her free time, she enjoyed music, reading, writing, traveling, and simply cherishing moments with her children and grandchildren. Her warmth, generosity, and love left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.

Her journey was supported by her family, her husband, and her steadfast faith. Joyce also credited the compassionate care of the Fairview Hospice team, who allowed her to spend her final days at home with her loved ones and her dog, Annie. She embraced therapies such as music therapy, hypnosis, aromatherapy, massage, and healing touch, which brought her comfort and peace. Joyce believed deeply in talking openly about death and dying, sharing her fears, prayers, and tears with her family to prepare together for the end.

In 2017, we honored Joyce’s kidney cancer journey by climbing Eagle Mountain in her name—a testament to her courage and the lasting inspiration she provided.

Joyce’s life reminds us of the power of faith, family, and community in facing life’s greatest challenges. Though she is no longer with us, her memory, love, and positive influence continue to guide and inspire all who were fortunate to know her.
