We climbed Citlaltépetl for Peggy!

A Diagnosis She Never Expected

At 55, Peggy received shocking news: a CT scan taken for unrelated intestinal issues revealed a mass on her left kidney. Having lost her father to kidney cancer in 1987, the discovery hit especially hard. “I thought I was going to die and assumed I only had three months to live,” Peggy shared. “I cried for three hours and couldn’t talk to anyone about it.”

Finding Peace Through Faith

The six weeks between her diagnosis and surgery were filled with fear and uncertainty—but also moments of peace. Peggy and her husband, Jeff, took long walks together and prayed, experiencing what she described as an unexplainable peace that carried her through the waiting.

Surgery and Recovery

Peggy underwent surgery to remove the cancer, and thanks to expert care from her medical team—including Dr. Christopher Weight—she made a full recovery. Today, Peggy is cancer-free. She is deeply grateful for those who supported her through her journey, including her nurse friend Jo Jones, whose calm and wisdom helped steady her spirit, and her husband, Jeff, who stood beside her every step of the way.

A New Chapter of Life

Peggy works as an Administrative Assistant at New Hope Church, where her faith continues to guide and strengthen her. She enjoys walking, biking, fitness, reading the Bible and good books, and spending time with family—especially “dating” her husband of 35 years.

A Joyful Connection

Just one day after her surgery, Peggy’s grandson, Carter, was born on June 17, 2015. “His first year of life parallels my first year of extended life,” Peggy said. When Carter turned one, Peggy celebrated her one-year scans—which showed no evidence of cancer.

Living with Gratitude

Peggy’s story is one of faith, courage, and renewal. What began as fear became a journey of trust, hope, and thankfulness. She continues to live each day with gratitude, cherishing her faith, her family, and the gift of more time.
