We climbed Mt. Temple for Susan!
Susan
A Shocking Discovery
At 60 years old, Susan began experiencing back pain—something that seemed ordinary at first but turned out to be the first sign of something far more serious. After medical testing, she received an unexpected diagnosis: kidney cancer. The news came as both a shock and a source of deep fear.
Facing Treatment with Strength
Susan underwent surgery to remove the affected kidney, followed by chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments. She was amazed by her surgeon, Dr. Christopher Weight, whose confidence and skill gave her reassurance during an uncertain time. He was able to successfully remove the cancer while leaving her with one fully functioning kidney—even though her remaining kidney wasn’t in the usual anatomical position.
Supported Every Step of the Way
Susan’s husband and family have been her greatest sources of support throughout her journey. Their strength, love, and encouragement have helped her stay positive as she awaits her first follow-up scans.
Life Beyond Cancer
Outside of her treatment, Susan works as a County Recorder. In her free time, she enjoys reading and watching her son race cars—moments that bring her joy and a welcome distraction from the challenges of recovery.
Looking Ahead
Though still early in her journey, Susan remains hopeful and grounded in gratitude for early detection and expert care. Her advice to others facing kidney cancer is simple but powerful: “Early detection.”
Susan’s courage and optimism remind us that even in moments of fear, there can be hope, strength, and gratitude for every day forward.
